The voltage being advertised by Amazon sellers is a lie.
Stun guns and tasers listed as 2 million, 5 million, 50 million and even 90 million is incorrect and flat out impossible.
THE TRUTH ABOUT STUN GUN VOLTAGE
Some helpful facts to help you to better understand electric voltage.
* 20,000 volts - STATIC ELECTRICITY
Have you ever touched something and received an electric shock? Of course, we all have felt the effect of static electricity and some shocks have likely been quite memorable. The average static electric shock is 20,000 volts. It can be slightly painful but is more a shocking surprise than anything else.
* 50,000 volts - TASER® POLICE STUN GUNS
The best stun device on the market is the TASER. People call stun guns "tasers" but they are not a TASER as the word is a specific brand. The TASER stun device is 50,000 volts. It is highly effective and carried by just about every police force in the US. You will not be able to find a single TASER video on the Internet where a person "tased" by a TASER does not go down and become instantly incapacitated.
* 2 Million - 10 Million volts - LIGHTNING
Lighting that you see in a thunderstorm is between 2,000,000 and 10,000,000 volts. Again that is 2-10 million volts. It is most certainly lethal, in most situations.
Now ask yourself, how is a stun gun advertised as millions of volts, stronger than lethal lightning? The truth is it isn't. Most stun guns are 100,000 volts, some as high as 200,000 volts. TASER, the most powerful and effective stun gun available, elects to keep their voltage at 50,000 volts. Based on multiple conversations with other stun gun manufacturers (off the record) they tell us there are voltage limits inherent to stun devices that will not allow 200,000 volts to be crossed. Is it logical that a small battery housed in a stun device can generate millions of volts, of course not! Consider why you chose a stun gun or TASER for self-defense, to begin with. Most people we have talked to, since we began in 2003, tell us they went with a stun gun or TASER because they wanted a non-lethal weapon vs. carrying a handgun. If that is your logic, (we agree with it) why would you even want an electrical stun device reported to be more powerful than lightning? Lightning kills.
Why do stun gun manufacturers state millions of volts? Because they can. There is no government agency regulating voltage claims. To gain an edge in marketing, stun gun manufacturers continually raise the voltage claims on their packaging and product descriptions despite it being a flat out lie. The only manufacturer that has consistently maintained truth in voltage advertising is AXON, the maker of TASER®.
Even our own site, THE HOME SECURITY SUPERSTORE lists voltage incorrectly. We are only reporting what the manufacturers listed on their packaging. In the coming weeks, we will be removing the excessive voltage claims from our product descriptions.
If you cannot afford a TASER®, we recommend a Stun Baton.
Here is why:
1. It is an intimidating striking club.
2. They house bigger batteries and are the most powerful stun guns we have tested.
3. Their length allows you to maintain distance.
4. They have a powerful built-in flashlight and thus are natural to have in your hand while walking at night, in your car, and at your bedside.
